چکیده

A simple and rapid column-switching ion chromatography with non-suppressed conductivity detection method was developed for simultaneous determination of L-carnitine, choline and mineral ions (free sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium ions) in milk and powdered infant formula samples. On-line sample clean-up was achieved on the pretreatment column Dionex IonPac NG1 (50 mm 4 mm, i.d.), with pretreatment elution (3 mmol L 1 MSA) and washing solution (100% acetonitrile) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL min . After column switching, the separation and determination of analytes were performed using guard column Dionex IonPac SGS (50 mm 4 mm, i.d.) and analytical column Dionex IonPac SCS (250 mm 4 mm, i.d.) with an isocratic mobile phase consisting of 3 mmol L 1 MSA and 10% (v/v) acetonitrile, at flow-rate of 1 mL min , followed by non-suppressed conductivity detection. The organic matrices clean-up performance of the proposed method was studied using an UV detector working at 200–400 nm. Under the optimal conditions, detection limits (S/N 1⁄4 3) ranging from 0.05–0.30 mg L , good linearities in the range of 1–100 mg L 1 with a correlation coefficient over 0.9973, and satisfactory recoveries in the range between 94% and 105% with relative standard deviation less than 2.1% for real samples were attainted. The proposed method was successfully applied to rapid, simultaneous, and labour-saving detection of L-carnitine, choline, and mineral ions in milk and powdered infant formula samples.

Determination of choline in infant formula by ion chromatography.

Choline was determined in infant formula by ion chromatography with suppressed conductivity detection. Samples were digested with 1M hydrochloric acid, filtered, diluted, and injected into the chromatographic system. Choline and the alkali and alkaline earth metals were separated on a high-resolution cation-exchange column and detected by suppressed conductivity. The method was linear between 2...

Rapid Determination of L-carnitine in Infant and Toddler Formulas by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry

A rapid and simple analytical method for L-carnitine was developed for infant and toddler formulas by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). A 0.3 g of infant formula and toddler formula sample was mixed in a 50 mL conical tube with 9 mL water and 1 mL 0.1 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) to chemical extraction. Then, chloroform was used for removing a lipid fraction. After centrif...

Selective determination of chromium (VI) in powdered milk infant formulas by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry after ion exchange.

A previously developed method was adapted to the selective determination of hexavalent chromium in powdered milk infant formulas. The species in reconstituted milk was separated on an ion-exchange column, Chromabond NH2, and measured by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry. The detection limit was 1.8 micrograms/L, and the linearity range under optimized conditions was 1.8-...

Determination of Aflatoxins B1 and B2 in Powdered Milk Using Modified Liquid Chromatography Method

Background & Aims: In this study, using a liquid-liquid microextraction method for pre-concentration trace amounts of aflatoxins, the amount of Aflatoxins B1 and B2 in powdered milk was determined. Determination of aflatoxins was done by using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescent detector. Method: Samples were extracted by immunoaffinity column (IAC) clean-up, and the...

Quantitative determination of total L-carnitine in infant formula, follow-up formula, and raw materials by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry.

We developed a rapid and useful routine screening assay for total L-carnitine content in various infant formulas and materials by liquid chromatography coupled with a tandem mass spectrometric method (LC-MS/MS) and alkaline hydrolysis. For separation of L-carnitine, a multi-mode octadecylsilane (ODS) column was used that contained ODS ligands, anion ligands, and cation ligands to avoid using io...
